Madeline Rickmers, LMFT-A
Counselor
Hello, I'm Madeline Rickmers, LMFT-A, a dedicated counselor at Katy Teen & Family Counseling. I specialize in counseling for teens, young adult counseling and family counseling to help get you through life's challenges. Based in Katy, Texas, my calm and approachable nature helps create a safe space for your child to feel heard and understood.

I was Born and raised in Cypress, Texas and I have always had a passion for helping teens and young adults navigate life's challenges. I’m thrilled to be working with teens, young adults, and families, supporting them as they face everything from everyday struggles to more complex emotional or behavioral challenges.

Professional Background & History
With specialized training in Gottman Level 1 & 2, EFT Externship Trainings, Crisis Intervention and De-escalation, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I bring a wealth of knowledge to my practice.
This expertise allows me to effectively address issues such as ADHD, anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, depression, marriage counseling, self-esteem issues, and LGBTQ+ clients.
My professional journey began with my love for understanding human behavior and how we influence one another with our actions, At the University of Arkansas I triple majored in Criminal Justice, Sociology, and Psychology. While in college, I worked at a before and after-school program with high school teens, an experience that deeply influenced my decision to go into counseling.

After graduating during the pandemic, I managed a program for younger children before deciding to pursue my master’s in counseling at St. Edward's University in Austin.
During my internship at St. Edwards University, I worked at a partial hospitalization program/intensive outpatient program for teens. Here I recognized my ability to easily establish rapport with the teens and once rapport was established, they were able to be open and do some amazing work!

Personalized Approach
I understand how heartbreaking it can be to see your child struggle emotionally or behaviorally. My goal is to provide a supportive environment where teens and young adults can explore their feelings and work towards positive change.
I believe in working closely with parents, ensuring you feel involved and informed every step of the way. I believe therapy should be a collaborative process, where clients feel empowered to take an active role in their healing.
My approach is grounded in Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These approaches are supported by research and shown to be effective, which they have proven to be in my work.
I’m especially passionate about providing a safe, supportive space for LGBTQ+ teens and young adults. I understand how vital it is to have someone to talk to who can help navigate the complexities of identity, relationships, and self-acceptance. I involve the parents every step of the way in this journey while also being able to maintain the teen or young adult's confidentiality.
