"I have had the privilege of working with Ercelia. I have enjoyed her energy and her kind personality. I was fortunate to get to shadow Ercelia and see how easily she could connect with the teens and parents she worked with. Ercelia' s great interpersonal communication and listening skills help her to build trust with the teens and parents she works with which helps her to better understand their needs and concerns. It was evident to me that she does care and wants to help them overcome their challenges and find solutions to move them towards their goals."

Personal Background & History

I have great respect for those parents raising teens in today's world. I come from a single parent household where my mother was responsible for me and my siblings. I do not know how she did it, but I know she did the best she could with circumstances life handed her -- and I absolutely loved and admired her for it!

My mother's parenting became much more complicated as at the age of 12 years old, I lost two of my siblings. The loss of my siblings created a void in my heart that was filled with hurt, anger, sadness, confusion, and disappointment.

As a result of the hurt I felt as a teen, I became difficult to parent due to my behavior. As a teen, these emotions were huge, and I did not know how to manage the hurt and loss. Therapy was not a thought on my or my mother's mind. Had I been able to see a teen and family therapist, much of the hurt I felt and caused my family could have been avoided.

At the age of 19, things became much more complicated with the loss of both my parents. It had been 7 years since the loss of my siblings and the loss of my parents ripped the wound back open. The hurt and loss was profound.

I was fortunate to have people around me who were able to offer support and guidance. I had to fight my way through the complexities of those experiences. Now, looking back, I can see the strength of character these experiences created for me. Yet, had I and my family been able to meet with a teen therapist and family counselor, much of the pain and despair I endured could have been avoided.

I want to help the teens and families in the Katy and Houston area through their difficult journey's. You do not need to go at it alone. I have the personal and professional experience needed to guide you along your path.

How I Got Here - Teen Therapy, Young Adult Counseling, & Family Therapy

First Step in My Professional Counseling Journey: Youth Worker and Shift Lead

My journey into the world of professional teen therapy, young adult counseling, and family therapy started in much the same way many therapists who provide teen therapy and family counseling do -- as a Youth Worker and Shift Lead.

I started my journey in a very unique program serving children and teens who experienced neglect and abuse. These children from the ages of 10 to 17 years old did not have a safe home and stayed in this program as their temporary home. Here, we provided teen counseling and family therapy (where appropriate) as well as other life skills to prepare them for their future.

Working day in and day out with these kids and teens who show up daily to therapy and courageously work to undo the impact of trauma was inspiring. These are kids and teens who had experienced terrible things at the hands of the adults who were supposed to keep them safe. Yet, they showed up day in and day out in therapy and fight to undo the effects of those experiences. For those of you who have had the privilege's of working with these teens, you know they have a warriors heart!

I went on to provide counseling and education to families in my home town. I provided parenting classes and support, anger management for teens and young adults, teen and young adult counseling, and family therapy. I went on to get my Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) license. As an LCDC, I began working with teens and young adults who struggled with substance use, abuse, and dependency. Often, teens and young adults who are using substances use as a means to avoid or escape difficulties in their lives.

Equipping Myself & Gearing Up: Master Degrees in Psychology, Professional Counseling, and Marriage  Family Therapy

I went on to study psychology in my bachelor's program. I graduated with a Bachelors in Psychology from LeTourneau University in Houston, Texas. LeTourneau University is a private Christian University that was listed as one of the best colleges by U.S. News & World Report.

After earning my Bachelor of Psychology, I went to graduate school at LeTourneau University. In graduate school, I earned a Master's in Psychology. With a Masters in Psychology under my belt, I decided to turn right around and enrolled in a dual masters program. I graduated with my second Master's degree in Professional Counseling and Marriage & Family Therapy.

Guiding Others on Their Journey: Professional Experience in Teen Counseling & Family Therapy

With a Master degrees in Psychology, Professional Counseling, and Marriage & Family Therapy, I combined those degrees with my Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor license and worked as a Primary Therapist at a private, substance abuse program. Here, I provided individual, couples, and family therapy for those struggling with substance use, abuse, and/or dependency.

Teen depression, teen anxiety, teen trauma therapy or teen PTSD treatment are some of the difficulties teens and young adults wanted to escape through substance use. It's only natural to not want to feel hurt or pain -- our bodies and minds are hard wired to avoid it. Through substance help teens to avoid the hurt or pain, the consequences of using substances are severe. There is a better way.

As a LCDC, I was able to help them uncover the root causes of their substance use. Once the root causes were identified, I helped to address those root causes. As they worked through those difficulties, their motivation and ability to reduce or end their use increased.
