I also know that there are times where the challenges may be more individualized where one-on-one therapy may be needed. The combination of these two licenses enables me to specialize in family therapy, couples counseling, and individual therapy. I am also Gottman trained which added to my experience, has helped those seeking marriage counseling.

I am a recovering Yankee, or so my Texas-born wife tells me, but remain an avid Houston Astros and New York Mets fan. In that order.
I love to travel – what’s not to like? I’m a city boy who’s come to appreciate more and more time spent in the great outdoors. I love discovering new places, connecting with old friends and making new ones, and meeting for coffee, a craft beer, or a great meal. I’m a sucker for a good book and a great movie.
Self-care has become a priority for me. I have to practice what I preach. Muhammad Ali once said, "Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth." Two true blessings in my life are to be able to serve others and be married to my best friend, the above mentioned and self-described Texas girl.

I look forward to helping your teen, young adult, and family! And as a marriage counselor, I look forward to helping those couples who want to strengthen their marriage or relationship!

Harry W. Mergel LMFT, LPC
Therapist
My name is Harry W. Mergel and I have provided counseling for teens, young adults, adult men, families, and couples since 1992.

At Katy Counseling for Men, I worked primarily with teen boys and young adult young men in addition to adult men. I also am Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) trained and have worked with both teen boys and teen girls using EMDR. It has been one of the most effective approaches I have used.
I've been very successful at Katy Teen & Family Counseling. I find that I have a unique ability to connect with and help teens and young adults. Also, due to my experience with EMDR, specializing in family therapy, and couples counseling,
I am dual licensed as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I know how important the family system is in helping others in their therapeutic journey.

Professional Background & History
I am a graduate of the Abilene Christian University, Professional Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy Program and did my internship at the Marriage and Family Institute. Since 1994, I have specialized teen, young adult, and men's counseling as well as in providing couples therapy, marriage counseling, and family counseling.
During this time, I have worked with those who have struggled with:
-
PTSD, and more.
My Therapy Approach
Having the experience and specialization to help in the context of teen, young adult, and family therapy in addition to couples counseling, I am ready to help you.
We all face emotional challenges in life. It can be particularly difficult to watch as our teen or young adult experience these heavy, complex emotional challenges. Things like depression, panic attacks, social anxiety, ADHD/ADD, trauma, PTSD, are but a few that I have helped others work through.
When we go to a doctor, we expect that they are using the most up to date, proven and effective medical practices that will help us. Seeing a teen therapist, young adult counselor, family therapist, or marriage counselor is no different.
And you should settle for nothing less from your mental health counselor. You deserve a specialist who uses research-supported, effective therapy approaches that have been shown to work.
Over the years, I have had great success helping people overcome individual and relational challenges with the following therapy approaches. These approaches are supported by research and have been shown to be effective:

Anxiety
Depression
ADHD/ADD
Expectations
School Stress
Marriage and Couples
Gifted & Talented Teens
Self-Harm
Feeling Lonely
Family Issues
Communication
Transitions
Neurodivergence
Autism
Panic Attacks
