What Others Say About Working with Quique Autrey, LPC
"Quique Autrey has been able to connect with my son after other counselors have not. He accepted my son as he is, making him feel seen, heard, and valued. Quique helped to guide my son without telling him what to do. Our family has been blessed by his guidance, and we are healthier because of it. I highly recommend Quique to anyone searching for a counselor."

He has a very calm approach and always feels like you’re talking to a friend you trust and you know will guide you the best way possible. Personal, Educational, & Professional Background
My name is Quique (pronounced “Key + Kay”). I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to the United States when I was two years old. I have been working with teens and families since 2008. I am married with four kids and a pug named Bear.
My passion working with teens, young adults, families, and couples stems from my own childhood. Throughout my life I’ve struggled with anxiety, depression and OCD. This has been a driving force in becoming a teen therapist, young adult counselor, and family counselor.
My goal is to help teens, young adults, families, and couples heal from the struggles that prevent you from living a full life of happiness. Helping teens and families to heal also will help teens live to their fullest potential helping them as they transition into adulthood.
In therapy, I have a non-judgmental, warm, and inviting approach. This is by nature but also through my own experience working through and overcoming difficulties in my life. Through my own personal and professional experience, I have a unique ability to connect with and help teens, young adults, families, and couples out of the hurt that they experience.
If I had a superpower, it would be establishing an easy, strong connection with people. I enjoy collaborating with teens, young adults, families, and couples and watching them grow! Clients report that I am in-depth and practical.
My Therapy Approach
I am experienced in a variety of therapy approaches supported by research. I am goal-oriented and motivated to help you meet your goals.
Some teens, young adults, families, and couples need to explore their family of origin. Other may need to process big questions like death and the meaning of life. Others may need help formulating specific goals to manage their OCD, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, ADHD/ADD, trauma, or PTSD. If you are in a relationship and need therapy to help resolve problems and strengthen your relationship as a couple, I can help.
My approach is a version of psychodynamic coaching. I can help you understand the underlying connections behind whatever your current struggles may be. In addition, I use solution-focused questions to help you resolve the problem that may be keeping you stuck.
We can take incremental steps in the direction you want to be heading in while I provide my therapeutic support along the way. It is important you feel we are collaborating together in therapy. I am here to help you help yourself.
I believe anyone can benefit from therapy. Life is difficult and often unfair. We’ve all experienced hardships or traumas that have impacted us in a million different ways.
It can be easy to become jaded and lose hope. Therapy can be a safe space where our struggles are translated into healing speech. Sometimes what you really need is a place you can share your struggles without being judged.
My own therapy experiences helped me to realize that therapy can be the one place that all the various parts of you are welcomed. We have our own innate strengths we bring to therapy.
We also have those struggles which have created difficulties for us in our lives. I can help you capitalize on your strengths in therapy while we work to help you restore hope, happiness, and connected relationships.
Educational Journey
My path to providing teen therapy, young adult counseling, family therapy, and marriage counseling & couples therapy started with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston. I majored in communications and minored in religious studies. These two degrees helped me understand the importance of communication in relationships and the importance of pursuing meaning in life.
After graduating with my Bachelor's degree, I completed a Masters of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. This degree equipped me to work with teens, young adults, and families across the ups and downs of their life.
I also have a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. This degree enabled me to acquire the skills and knowledge base to become a teen, young adult, and family therapist and to help couples navigate complex struggles.
Professional Journey
Over the last 13 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving teens, young adults, families, and couples in three important ways.
-
I started out as a youth pastor. In this role, I helped teens and young adults navigate emotional, social and spiritual realities. I learned the importance of working with teens, young adults, and families to produce lasting change.
-
My next step on the journey led me to a private high school where I provided educational and therapeutic services to teens diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In this role, I helped neurodiverse teens accept their diagnosis, learn social skills, and flourish as people with unique challenges.
-
My next stage in the journey took me to the wonderful world of private practice. I have worked with a variety of teens, young adults, families, and couples helping them through the challenges in their lives. I found a unique niche and strength as a therapist in helping teenage boys and young adult men on the Autism Spectrum.
A Teen Therapist, Young Adult Counselor, Family, & Couples Counselor at Katy Teen & Family Counseling
I was drawn towards working with Katy Teen & Family Counseling as their values align very much with mine. This was fist evident when the owner lead clinician, Jason Drake, LCSW-S, BCN, talked about his approach on the first phone call he receives from parents seeking help from a therapist.
Jason does not rush parents off of phone calls to schedule an appointment. He spends as much time with as the parents need talking with them.
He validates concerns, successful approaches they have used, helps provide understanding, and normalizes their experiences. Jason believes that being Devoted and Committed to Client Care starts from that first phone call and throughout the therapy process.
As a teen therapist, young adult counselor, family counselor, and couples counselor, being devoted and committed to client care is a value I hold. I have a unique background that qualifies me to practice empathy in the therapeutic relationship while also encouraging growth and change.
I know it is not only possible, but highly likely that you will achieve your goals as we work on them together. I am naturally authentic in my relationships in private practice as well as in my personal life.
As a teen therapist, young adult counselor, family & couples counselor, I use those approaches that are supported by research and shown to be effective. While the therapeutic relationship is a key element in helping teens, young adults, families, and couples be successful, a skilled therapist using approaches that have been shown to work is essential.
